BIRTH
This morning I painted a prayer
First I was the moon
halved and waiting
still shining but searching
It started silver it bled to gold
edges were lost
I kneel and kiss the canvas
My face is wet in gratitude
I must bleed onto the background
I am that angel who planted you
in your mother
Mary Of God’s womb
I am agony burst into laughter
The silent second before the scream
Split open the body!
Give life!
There is a tribal rhythm of ancient hearts
that none may ignore
when they pound out your name
to enter earthly realms
for heavenly pleasures
in marriage of the missing
half of your soul
Stilled blood settles here
pulse refuses to pump
without your heart bursting over mine
Placental Embryo
Birthing requires such
concentration
and none
such decision
and none
such blood
such blood
a river sacrificed
words are made for mortals
while angels rely on miracles
Today is a miracle
today a moment ago
you were born
This morning I painted a prayer
souls calling
for
celebration!
