July was a busy painting month

Triangle Artist Guild held the August monthly meeting last night. It was great to see those members who attended.   The summer as it seems, was busy for all of us.  Several members brought in new artwork to critique and several of us are catching our breath from our June and July whirlwind.

In June my painting "Flower Hill" was accepted in the NC Pastel Society Statewide Show.  That pastel painting (see below) was used as the basis for a larger oil that is now at Mahler Fine Art in Raleigh.

The month of July has vanished.  In addition to gathering pieces for the TAG show to be displayed at ChambersArt later in September, I am busy delivering new work to the Mahler Fine Art in Raleigh, SaxArt in Saxapahaw and at the Cary Gallery of Artists in Cary.  My week of plein air painting at the Cashiers Plein Air Festival was the highlight of July.  I painted along side of over 20 artists selected from across the country.  As you can imagine, with that many artists painting all day every day, over 100 paintings were completed that week.  The wet room, gala and quick draw were buzzing with new art being installed, admired and sold.  Thanks to all of the patrons and volunteers who helped out the cause - The Village Green in Cashiers, NC!

One of the popular places to paint in Cashiers was Camp Merrie-Woode for girls.  Merrie-Woode girls seem to have a blast forming life-long friendships over their summer at camp.
Attached is one my favorites from Merrie-Woode.  "The Arc" is the cabin where on their day off, the counselors get to have a little R & R.

"The Arc" is available at Misty Mountain Gallery (owned by David Berger in Cashiers. NC)

Ok, so this week of August is ushering in cooler temps it is time to return to the easel en plein air.  Have a great month, stop for a visit, call or check out my work at http://wendymusser.com

'tis a little cold to paint outside

It is a bit nippy so let's stay in the studio today. I have actually just moved to a new home and am still in the process of setting up my studio. So to get me started painting again, I am pulling out a painting that still needs work.  And I have pulled out a favorite finished painting.
The finished pastel painting is titled "Trickling Down to the Pond". It is a small piece that I painted from my photos taken during the Cashiers Plein Air event earlier this summer. I entered the studio piece in a landscape show hosted by the Cary Gallery of Artists and juried by Susan Sarback.  Susan is an internationally known artists and is founder of The School of Light and Color.  I was fortunate enough to not only get in the show; but, also received First Place for "Trickling Down to the Pond".  I hope you enjoy the piece and the greens of that summer day warm you on this chilly autumn day.

Stay warm!
